St.Ben’s Grey to Green Gardening Club

Since Autumn 2024 we’ve been working with St. Benedict’s Primary School to deliver bespoke educational sessions for students, focusing on growing food, connecting with nature and learning about the food system. We have helped to develop some dissused areas of the school to create productive veg beds as well as planting soft fruits.
St Ben’s has a large number of children from families struggling with poverty & since June 2024 we have been delivering vegetables & fruit grown at Wedmore Village Farm to be distributed to families in need.
“Glastonbury is one of the 10% most disadvantaged places in the UK. There is a growing problem with food poverty. Approaching 40% of our children are from disadvantaged families. We recognise the value of good quality food [and] We’ve been very fortunate in recent weeks to be part of The Food Forest Project, and that has allowed parents and pupils access to high quality organic food.”
Pier Ranger, St.Benedict’s Junior headteacher, June 2024.
